TabTasks — Privacy Policy

TabTasks is a browser side-panel to-do & page-capture extension. We do not sell your data or upload task content to developer servers. Only an explicit AI request sends the task snapshot described below directly to OpenAI.

What data exists, and where does it live?
Everything you create in TabTasks — task titles, page links you capture, page text excerpts you choose to save, list names, tags, and due dates — is stored only in your own browser via the chrome.storage API. Optional AI and exports process selected data as described below. Uninstalling the extension (or explicitly clearing extension storage) deletes your local data. We have no server that stores task content.

Why does the extension request broad permissions?
TabTasks reads the title and URL of the page you are actively viewing, and (if you are a Pro user) a short text excerpt, only when you request capture through a button, shortcut or selection menu. That information is written to local storage. Capture itself does not send task content to a server; a later explicit AI request sends only the snapshot described below.

Licensing & payments.
Pro purchases are processed by Stripe (stripe.com) on their checkout pages; payment card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never reach us. To activate a Pro license, the extension verifies a license key locally in your browser. The purchase success page uses a developer-operated Worker to verify the Stripe order and issue a key. We do not receive usage telemetry from the extension.

Optional AI assistant (bring your own key).
The AI assistant is off by default and never contacts any server unless you enable it and paste your own OpenAI API key into the extension. When you use it, the task titles, IDs, due dates, completion state and tags, plus your instruction goes directly from your browser to api.openai.com under your key, and OpenAI's own privacy terms apply to that request. The key is stored only in your local chrome.storage, is never sent to us, and can be removed at any time from the settings drawer. Right-click selection capture and .ics calendar export are fully local and involve no network access.

Optional AI transmits task titles, IDs, due dates, completion state, tags and your instruction to OpenAI; notes, page URLs and page excerpts are not included in the AI snapshot. The optional host permission applies only to api.openai.com. API usage may incur charges under your OpenAI account.
